In this talk I will address the application of theoretical perspectives in child language disorders to community-based language and literacy research in urban, low-income environments. Topics will include the investigation of linguistic processing tasks, less-biased approaches to language assessment, language sample analysis, caregiver training to increase linguistic input to children, and preventative interventions. The benefits and challenges of community-based research will be discussed. |
