This poster presents a pilot study designed to evaluate the efficacy of an intervention to increase validating comments in children with language impairment (LI). Four elementary school-age children with LI participated in a 10-week social communication intervention. Children ranged in age from 6:4 to 9:4 (years: months). Three participants were female and one was male. Training involved direct instruction of target concepts, peer interactions with classmates, and evaluation of the use of target skills by reviewing videotaped peer interactions. The intervention was successful in increasing the use of validating comments for three of the four participants. Follow-up data indicated that the three children who produced increases in performance maintained the production of validating comments after the treatment ended. |
